I have recently purchased an Asus Eee PC 1001HA netbook (1Gb RAM, N270 Intel Atom processor, 160Gb HDD).

I have upgraded RAM to 2Gb (see Asus forum for details, youtube also offers quite a lot of video on the topic), and now it is time to upgrade the OS from what they have put on it. I haven’t touched MS Windows since 2006, and quick comparison of productivity gave me one more proof that I was right. The details to follow.

The live OS image (Fedora-12-i686-Live.iso) I downloaded from Fedora web site was previously burnt to a CD. A detachable Philips USB burner was used to boot it.

After clicking the “Install to Hard Drive” icon the installation begins. The screens that follow are pretty much standard for any Fedora installation process. At this stage, you choose the installation language, time zone, network domain and create root password.

The partitioning is very important at this stage, I chose the following options (allowing swap partition to be double RAM size).

The overall impression from the installation is good, Fedora installer is simple and transparent, containing no pitfalls since early 2000-s.
